Social Work Compact Enacted in 35 States

As of July 2026, the Social Work Licensure Compact has now passed in 35 states. States having recently adopted the compact during their 2026 legislative sessions so far include: Wisconsin enacted AB 80 on Thursday, April 9th; West Virginia enacted SB 703 on Tuesday, June 9th; and Alaska having enacted HB 110 on Friday July 3rd, 2026.

While multistate licenses are not yet available, the Social Work Compact legislation is pending in 3 other states, and with an upcoming annual meeting of the Commission anticipated for Fall 2026.

The overall implementation process for the compact will take approximately 18-24 months before social workers are able begin applying for multistate licenses. As of May, the Commission announced its data system partnership with Inspiring Apps, with development currently underway and estimated for completion in Spring 2027.
